It turns out...

...that Miss Libby has strep throat. :-( Poor little girl.

Ryan went to work this morning at 7:45am and I stayed home with Libby. He went to his meeting and then came home at 9:00am and that's when I left to go to work. I went to work from 9:30 until noon and then I had to leave to go back home and pick up Libby and then take her to the appointment that I made for her to see her doctor at 1:00pm. We left with a diagnosis of strep throat and a prescription for amoxicillin...and the news that Libby has to stay home for one more day.

Fever

Little Miss Libby woke up yesterday with a fever. It wasn't too bad until last night and then it really hit her. She had a miserable night - which of course means that neither one of us got much sleep. There was no way that she could go to school today so we both stayed home and she got some much needed rest. I was even able to get in a nap this afternoon while she was sleeping. Tonight when she was going to sleep she still had a bit of a fever and a sore throat so at this pace it doesn't look like she'll be able to go to school tomorrow so Ryan and I are trying to figure out how to work out the day. I really need to go in to work tomorrow because I'm off next week for Libby's Spring Break and I need to be sure to have everything caught up. But if Ryan can't stay home with her then of course there is no doubt that I'll be staying home with her - and calling to get her an appointment to see her doctor!

oops!!

So this morning Libby and I met Karen and Kristina at the Spring Arts Festival and then went to get some lunch together. As we were eating Kristina began describing some shenanigans that she was teaching to her friend's young daughter. Libby asked, "What is shenanigans?" and Kristina responded by saying, "Go look it up in your Funk & Wagnalls." Libby loudly responded, "I don't have a f*cking Wagnalls!!!" Unfortunately for me I had just taken a bite of my sandwich and I thought I was going to choke. Kristina, Karen, and I were all in tears. While Libby knows that she can't say words like that she still ended up not getting in to trouble - you can't punish her for something like that! :-) Whew, I hadn't laughed that hard in a while. :-)

Black stallion

Today at Libby's school we had a black stallion police horse come visit us! :-) That definitely pleased Libby because she has always been crazy about horses. They came out and talked about Zeus, a 10 year old horse who became a police horse three years ago. Zeus is beautiful - and weighs in at a dainty 1,500 pounds! The children weren't the only ones in awe of the horse...he truly was beautiful!

After visiting with Zeus our class went to the playground while the next 1st grade class went to visit with the horse. When that class was finished they came running over to the playground where we were and infored us that, "He pooped! He pooped! It was a pile this high!!" Thankfully our class missed out on that extra special treat that the second class got to see! :-)

Debbie's bridal shower!

Today was Debbie's bridal shower! I had been planning the shower for months - which means that I was nervous for months that it wouldn't go over well. Plus, I had to speak in front of a group - which anyone who knows me at all knows that I don't speak in front of groups of any size!! :-) We played some traditional shower games...

and some not so traditional shower games...
had some tasty snacks...

Debs got some super cute gifts :-)

and we had fun with the girls...

It was a fun afternoon!!!!

Need

Today when I picked up Libby after school she immediately informed me that she "needed" Starbucks. That's understandable coming from a 7 year old, right? :-) Luckily for her I still have a balance on a gift card that I got for my birthday so I was able to take care of that "need" for her! :-) She ordered her "pink coffee" (which is actually a strawberries and cream frappuccino) and we sat and talked about school for a bit before we had to head to her art lesson. I had to ask her about her day today because I wasn't able to volunteer. Last night Ryan and I were sitting watching tv and all of a sudden I started feeling sick. I was still feeling sick this morning so Ryan got up (on his vacation) and got Libby up and ready for school and he took her in for me. Libby's teacher tried to talk him into volunteering in my place but she wasn't able to convince him to stay. :-)

Non-toxic

Tonight we had to make a quick stop in Wal-Mart on our way home (oh darn!). Libby quickly reminded me that I've been promising her that I would get her some more chalk for her chalk board/art easel/dry erase board that she got for her birthday. So, we picked up a box of chalk and kept going. As we were walking through the store she read the box and asked me what "non-toxic" meant. I explained it to her and she said, "Oh cool! I can eat my chalk!!" "No, no, no" I responded. "They are just letting parents know that if a YOUNG child who didn't know better accidentally ate some that it wouldn't be poisonous...they aren't encouraging you to eat your chalk!" My silly little girl! :-)

7:08am

What were YOU doing at 7:08am on this wonderful St. Patrick’s Day? At 7:08am I was picking through a bag of fruit loops getting all the green ones out for Libby’s St. Patrick’s Day breakfast. I was going to make her green eggs this morning but I didn’t get food dye so that left me picking through the bag to make a bowl of green cereal for her this morning. The things we do for those we love! :-)

...and by the way....

Tonight it was bed time for Libby so I was laying down with her as she drifted off to sleep. She was still for a moment and then quickly turned to me and excitedly said, "And by the way Mommy, I'm going to be goth!!" "WHAT??" I shrieked. She paused for a moment trying to figure out why my response sounded more like horror than the pure excitement that she expected. She continued, "I'm going to wear black lipstick, black fingernail polish, and dye my hair black with a little bit of purple!" I asked her what inspired this and she said that she thinks people will like it if she looks goth. I told her there was no way I was letting her do those things! She sat quiet for a second and said, "That's okay, I'll just wait until I'm 19 and then I can do whatever I want." Ugh.

Libby's newest art masterpiece

Today is Thursday so that means that it was my volunteer day in Libby's class. As always we were very busy! I left at noon and went home to eat lunch and then I picked up Libby at 1:45 when she got out of school. Her art lesson was at 3:00 and she finished the drawing that she has been working on and she did a fabulous job! As we walked out of her art class I had her sit on the bench and I took a quick picture of my cutie with her latest art masteriece. :-)

Bench clearing brawl!!!!

We went to the Florida Gator baseball game tonight. Ryan got tickets through his work...they always give away tickets to Gator sporting events to their employees. We get there and as we sat down in our seats I said to Ryan, "I want to see a bench clearing brawl tonight!" :-) So, we sit and watch the game in the freezing cold (it was like 58 degrees with a light wind so it was pretty cold out there) and we saw three - count them...THREE run downs! The Gators caught three guys in run downs while we were there. That's just crazy. We also saw two home runs by the Gators....and....ONE BENCH CLEARING BRAWL!!!!!!! I was so excited! :-) Their pitcher pitched the ball and it seemed aimed right at the chin of our batter. Needless to say our batter didn't take it well. If you listen to my side of the story you will hear that the batter ever so calmly began to stroll over to the pitcher's mound to ask the pitcher to please not aim at his chin again. :-) In actuality the batter took a few steps towards the mound with his bat still in his hand and that was all it took. Their outfield came charging in so our bench cleared which then caused Duquesne's bench to clear and then they were going at it. I grabbed my camera to catch the moment that my wish came true tonight! :-)
We ended up leaving at the top of the 7th inning because by then it was 9:00pm and I have plenty that I need to do tonight before tomorrow morning when I'll be leaving to go to Jacksonville to help Debs out with getting some stuff ready for her wedding that is in TWO MONTHS!!
